2nd NATIONAL MODEL A FORD MEET IPSWICH QUEENSLAND - Monday 26th to Friday 30th MARCH 2012 Hi Folks, I'd like to invite you to join us at Ipswich in Queensland, to again show the Australian public that the Model 'A' Ford is the great survivor of the vintage car era, and well deserves its title as the World's most popular collector car. As Queensland's oldest provincial city, Ipswich has a rich history. It is renowned for its architectural, natural and cultural heritage. Ipswich proudly preserves and still operates from many of its fine historical buildings and homes, with more than 6000 heritage-listed sites. Ipswich also has a range of charming townships within the western rural areas of the city, each with its own legitimate claims of historical significance. Ipswich offers all the modern facilities and attractions of a progressive city. Attractions include the Railway Workshops Museum, steam trains, more than 500 parks, wineries, cafes, restaurants, cinemas and shopping centres. Ipswich hosts regular national and local festivals and events such as the Queensland Open Golf Championships, Ipswich Cup - the city's annual major horse race, drag racing's finest at the Winternationals held at Willowbank Raceway, Queensland 400 V8 Supercars at Queensland Raceway. Don't forget Ipswich is central to all the wonderful experiences of South East Queensland including; the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Dreamworld, Sea World, Movie World, Australia Zoo, The Darling Downs and Lamington National Park, just to mention a few. The Ipswich City Mayor and Council are very excited to have the Model A Ford Meet held in their city and we are well on the way to planning an event to remember. Birdsville Outback Tour in Your Model A Ford 18 – 31 August 2012 Fulfill that once in a lifetime dream of seeing Lake Eyre, the rugged beauty of the Flinders Ranges and visit Birdsville and the Dig Tree near Innamincka. The tour will start at Port Augusta, South Australia which offers the world famous Wadlata Outback Centre and the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Gardens. Travelling north we will pass through historic Quorn and Hawker, staying at Wilpena Pound for three nights. There is ample time to explore the Flinders Ranges National Park. We then travel to the historic mining town of Blinman and through the Parachilna Gorge, staying two nights at Copley. Here visits can be made to Leigh Creek, the nearby large coal field and further to the east there is Arkaroola in the beautiful and rugged Gammon Ranges National Park. We next travel to Marree staying one night but there will be time to take a flight over Lake Eyre. We hope it will still contain water and wild life. From Marree we travel via Mungeranie Roadhouse to Birdsville. This will entail a minimum of two days of travel with camping out at night. At Birdsville we can stay one or two nights keeping in mind that the Birdsville races occur on 2-3 September 2011 and it could be busy prior to this. Leaving Birdsville we then travel via Cordillo Downs and Innamincka to the site of the Dig Tree where Bourke and Wills found provisions on their return journey from the Gulf. We will camp one night near Innamincka where the tour will finish. Each will need to decide their own way home. Much of the tour will be on unsealed roads and will require fuel, provisions, water and camping equipment to be carried. Booking of accommodation will be the responsibility of those going. Those with modern vehicles are also welcome. Register your expression of interest by contacting Trevor Davis at 4 Star Crescent, West Pennant Hills 2125 or (02) 9484 5116 or trevordavis4@optusnet.com.au. Tour details will be provided later. Note that if the outback roads we intend to travel on are unsatisfactory by late June 2011 the tour will be either shortened or cancelled.2
